Actualy, i totaly agree, that TextFX is too bloated.

My suggestion would be to split it into a number of plugins. Think about it...
I only use less than 10 features (some (un)escapes, and some convert functions).
I do not need the rest of it. But in case to have those functions that i do
use, i must also have all of the rest functions.

I think it would be best to split TextFX into a number of plugins. Each plugin
could have a low number (2-10) of functions. So that people can download and
use only the ones they realy need.

The menu items that start with '+' represent settings that can be checked (on
or off).

I dont think, that splitting of this plugin into subplugins is necessary. One
plugin is ok, but the user should get the possiblility to enable or disable
some plugin parts or menu entries.

Therefore a dialog will be usefull. Here you could enable or disable e.g.

TextFx Character
TextFx Quick
TextFx ...

Best Regards
Jens

TextFX is a really nifty Plugin, thanks for all the hard work!
1) There are many almost identical functions
? hmm. never see that.
2) Some of the menu items start with '+'
This '+' item are switches to turn functions on/off
The thread starten should read the demo.txt :-)
3) And some of them are written with mixed case.
Really? I don't care about this! The developer should do other things :-)
4) Some items have short explanations in their names.
I mean IMHO the 'explanations' are helpfull
5) TextFX plugin components pollute plugins menu.
Apparently textFX is basically one plugin, so it should be shown as one.
Create only one submenu for textFX under plugins menu.
And click always one more time to reach an tool? No please!

Look at how many "Convert *" functions there are in "TextFX Convert". Some of
them are very similar - it could be merged into one menu item (then when you
choose the item, dialog pops up with some options).

Yes, that is correct, BUT! Windows has support for custom checkbox images in
menus.
Check out function SetMenuItemBitmaps on MSDN. The '+' sign is realy ugly, while
some visible checked/unchecked state images (like the original checkbox) would
be alot better.

Yes, realy. It makes it very hard to read them. Most of the menu items ar ok,
but why the hell is ReWrap writen that way?

Yes, they are helpful, but they do not belong in the names!
Tooltips or/and statusbar should be used to show some detailed explanations.

That is why i say, that the plugin should be split into a set of small plugins.
The bad thing isn't realy about polluting plugins menu, it's about the use of
undocumented Notepad++ features. Notepad++ automaticaly adds one and only one
menu entry for every plugin. TextFX has more than one entry - that means, that
TextFX uses some hacks to do that. Toda, everything works, but if there would
be some changes in the api - TextFX might not work, it might make other (correct)
plugins not work, or it could even crash Notepad++/Windows.

Look a few lines above - i already answered why is it bad for a single plugin
to have multiple entries in plugins menu.
It'd be alot better if TextFX would be split into a set of small plugins.
