Hi Don, thanks for a great software
just a simple bug, it says in the notes "9. Enhance Find Replace dialog : Add
"Extended" option - search (and replace) for tabs(\t), newline(\n\r), and a
characters by it's value (\o, \x, \b, \d, \t, \n, \r and \\)."

I think the correct sequence is \r\n

Also, I tried searching for "A" \x41,\b01000001 works, yet \o101, \d65 don't!!
any ideas?

For decimal searches, you need to use exactly 3 digits, like \d065
Octal seems to be broken though (I highly doubt the usefullness of octal, but
it seems like a bug anyway)

Hi,

Several versions ago, clicking on 'save as' for a new document will land you
in the directory of the last previously opened tab's directory. However, with
the last 3 or 4 releases, it lands you in Notepad++'s install directory. The
prior behaviour was quite a bit more useful.

Could somebody confirm ?

thanks.

I can confirm this with version 4.8.5.
I also prefer the old behaviour to get the last directory.

It still does that, you have probably "Remember last operation directory" checked
in preferences:MISC

My remark wasn't meant to be sarcastic. But, yes, I'm not happy with all the
latest updates. If I make a text with accents in Notepad++ and I copy the text
in Word the conversion is wrong. For example if I type é in Notepad++ and copy
it in Word I see é. This bug is there for ages and it was mentioned several
times here.

I found a bug or a not correct behaviour:
I have a session with a dozen of files some of them quite large (more than 100K)
when I switch from a file to another NPP take sometimes to go on it (2-3 sec.)
. This behaviour is also in the previous release 4.9 OR but NOT in the
4.9 pre-release !!! In this case the switching is very fast.

I hope you can reply this behaviour and correct that.

Regards

Mauro

Copy "é" from Notepad++ with ANSI and Unicode set to Word.
Both cases work for me.

What OS do you have?

I use WIN XP Pro SP2.

ANSI seems to be OK

UTF-8 and UTF-8 withom BOM are OK in Notepad++ (accents are showing correctly),
but if I copy the text to Word all accents are mixed up.

Example:

Notepad++ with UTF-8: é, è, ë

Copied above to Word 2007: é, è, ë

Unfortunately this is not the same. This feature affect open and save dialogs.
But I like the current behaviour of the open dialog (it is in the same directory
as the currently open file, and its more important for me).

I mistyped the 'o' from octal with a '0' (zero), blame it on the editor font
:).

It should be fixed in the next release

When you insert the text, it is displayed incorrectly. Understand please. In

I had already reported this thing in another thread about 4.9.0 release, and
i'm reporting it here again just in case it had gone unnoticed and lost with
that thread.
There seems to be something wrong with clipboard formats. If you copy some text
from wordpad and paste it in notepad++, you'll get some garbage characters pasted
too.

Thanks again to DonHo and Harry for developing Notepad++

I also reported this issue in this thread. I think the problem is UTF-8, not
clipboard content.

If you copy text with special characters, like é or è, from Word or Wordpad
to Notepad++ in UTF-8 (or UTF-8 without BOM) you get strange, incorrect characters.
If you copy the same text in Notepad++ with ANSI everything is OK.

And it's also the other way around: copy text with special charaters from Notepad++
in UTF-8 (or UTF-8 without BOM) to e.g. Word and again you get incorrect characters.
If you copy the same text using Notepad++ with ANSI everything is OK.

Bottom line: UTF-8 is the bad boy.

And as, I very much ask founders of the program to finish HEX editor, and to
include it in the subsequent releases as it is the biggest + this program.
Or give me source codes.

I've noticed this bug as well when I copy and paste text from a different
application, but I've noticed that the bug occurs only if I use Ctrl-V to paste
the text with both printable and non-printable characters. If I use the Paste
entry in the Edit menu to paste the same content from the clipboard, it only
pastes the printable characters.

I'm on 4.9.1.

Yeah, you're right about the difference between copy&paste using the Edit menu
and Ctrl-V. I suddenly remember that GridinSoft Notepad had the same annoying
bug too a few years ago.

i don't know.. i got strage characters even if i copy a simple text like abc
from wordpad, and either with ansi or utf encoding set in np++
That's why i was thinking more of a problem with richtext / clipboard formats
than a problem with utf8.

though I have very much become attached to NOTPAD ++

Correct somewhat quicker!!!

It would be nice if the installation process would _ask_ you if you want to
keep the Hex Editor, instead of telling it will delete it and doing so.

I have to copy it back with each new release.
Luckily, I always have a back-up at hand, but this could be very annoying when
one doesn't.
