Hi all,

The version 2.3 of XML Tools plugin has been released and is available in download
page.

Here is what's new:

- Load libXML DLL dynamically; the plugin menu shows a "How to use..." when
DLL is not available.
- Fix errors and improve "Linarize XML" function: the function now supports
both LF and CRLF line ends
- Fix indentation error in "Pretty Print" function when having '>' char in node
attribute
- Fix the check marks problem in XML Tools plugin menu

The auto-installer (EXE file) is no longer available. You must install external
libraries (libXML, libXSLT, etc.) manually. These are available here:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=189927&package_id=264094&r
elease_id=607029

Tested under vista, xp and windows 98, here's the result :

* win98 : the error message is gone on the launch time - since now xmltools.dll
link dynamically with libxml2.dll
after copying the 4 needed dll into c:\windows\system\, xmltools works
perfectly.

* xp : on the first launch time with xmltools.dll, notepad++ crashes. After
copying the 4 needed dll into c:\windows\system32\, xmltools works perfectly.

* vista : on the first launch time with xmltools.dll, notepad++ crashes. After
copying the 4 needed dll into c:\windows\system32\, notepad++ still crashes.

Apparently, xmltools.dll does not load the "good" libxml2.dll that makes notepad++
crash.

Any solution about that?

Don

Thanks for feedback ;)

Mmmh that's strange, I don't have these problems (with and without libxml)...

I don't have vista (actually I had, but I've downgraded back to xp) and will
not be able to test on this platform. I'll first try to fix problems on xp.

On vista even when i copy the 4 dll's to the correct place I still get an error
saying iconv.dll does not have the proper setInfo() method etc.

I was having the same problem, and was putting the files in the plugins
directory.

I refuse to put non-windows libraries in my windows folder (and I'm pretty sure
in Vista it won't work anyway) but your post got me thinking.

The solution I found was to place the extra libs next to the notepad++ executable
(in my case the c:\program files\notepad++ directory).

Hope this helps.

Hello

I have Windows 2003 server and I tried all the suggested approaches where to
put the extra libs.

None seems to work. Notepad++ either crashes or this "setInfo()-Message" is
displayed.

Hi all,

Thanks for interest and sorry for being so long to respond.
But I've good news, I think I've fixed the problem. The problem was:

The plugin builds a normal menu if libXML could be loaded and a short menu if
it couldn't. To do it, I allocated the funcItems dynamically, depending on libXML
loading status:

int nbFunc = 29;
FuncItem* funcItem;

// loading libxml
...

if (libxmlStatus == 0) nbFunc = 1;

funcItem = new FuncItem[nbFunc];
...

For an unknown reason, it seems that NPP does not support dynamically allocated
funcItem table. So I changed this and it seems to work fine now.

I'll perform tests during next days and publish the new release on sourceforge
when it's ok. If someone is interested in testing the new release, it can be
(unofficially) grabbed on

The URL you provided
"http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=189927&package_id=264094&
release_id=607029" no longer has any files listed. Are they available
elsewhere?

I seccond Rob's post.
The link doesn't work.
I went to the sources, looked at the readme in the lib directory, went and downloaded
all the zillion dlls from the link put them all in the plugin dir got a zillion
errors about it not being multithreaded and missing 'setFrom' functions.
In short, I think ppl should consider using static compiling, it saves the world
a lot of the dll hell...
I am giving up

Apparently, the binary is reported containing Trojan, that's why it was removed
from download area.

Here's the whole tracker history (Sorry that I posted entirely, this tracker
link in sourceforge is broken obviously) :

Initial Comment:
One of the .dll files in the XML tools zip file plugin for Notepad ++ (ext_libs.zip
file) is reported by Spybot S&D as a Darkonia Trojan.

Link to zip file in question:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=189927&package_id=264094&r
elease_id=607029

Spybot configuration files used were up to date as of 10/03/2008. Specifically
had to scan the .dll files individually with Spybot S&D to get the threat
notification.

Message:
Notepad++ is a responsible project and I anticipate they will take action
if there is an actual confirmed issue.

I passed the .zip and the individual .dlls in to the multi-vendor scanner
at http://virusscan.jotti.org/ and everything came back clean. None of the
tools at my disposal indicate an issue with either the .zip or any of the
individual .dlls. That does not mean there is not an issue here; just that
none of the tools at my disposal can detect one.

I see that there are newer signatures from Spybot (two sets are newer).
No scanner is 100%. All eventually hit false positivies, defects, etc.

Please do the following:

1. Update your Spybot signatures and retest.
2. If there is a still a problem, please send a note to
***@users.sourceforge.net and pass along the results you encountered.
3. Please also follow-up with the Spybot folks and ask them to confirm
whether this is a false positive.

Thank you,
